Packing Tips for Travel

June 24th, 2024 Coordinador Web

When traveling, not only the destination and accommodations are important; suitcase organization is, too. So, the next time you get ready for an adventure, take the time to organize your suitcase efficiently and you’ll see that everything flows more harmoniously.

In addition to maximizing space and avoiding additional charges, you will also enjoy a more comfortable and stress-free trip. That is why we want to show you some ways to pack a suitcase in order to save space and avoid problems that can arise even before the actual trip begins.

  1. Write a Functional List

Prior to actually starting to pack, it is crucial to make a detailed list of everything you need to take with you on your adventure. You will see how much this simple but powerful tool will help you organize your thoughts and keep you from leaving anything important behind.

You should think of the list as a map that will lead you through your packing process. As you jot down each item, you may notice that everything feels like it’s flowing and that you are more laid back. It is a known fact that organizing a trip is equally exhausting and satisfying.

HOHO

From remembering the most basic things like clothing and toiletries to more specific items like plug and electricity adapters, everything has its place on the list. This will help you better visualize what you need to take and make adjustments given your trip duration and destination(s).

And don’t forget to include on your list those essential elements that so often get left behind, like phone chargers, first aid kits and important documents. Such supposedly small details can make the difference between a smooth trip and one that is full of unnecessary mishaps.

  1. Look for Luggage Organizers

Though they seem unnecessary at times, the truth is that using cube separators or organizers is a creative and innovative way to optimize the space in your suitcase and keep it organized. They are small but versatile travel companions that turn into secret allies for making the most of every inch of available space.

With each cube assigned a specific category, like clothing, accessories or toiletry items, you can keep everything in its place and avoid getting them mixed up and wrinkled during the trip. In other words, think of it as a jigsaw puzzle; everything will fit together perfectly.

Their magic lies in their ability to compress and compact your belongings, letting you take more without sacrificing space. At the same time, since they are transparent, you can see what is in each cube at a glance, avoiding having to unpack everything to find that lost pair of socks. That gives you a feeling of order and control, so you can stop worrying about how to pack clothing into a suitcase.

  1. Roll Up Your Clothing

If you’re still not sure how to fold the clothes to save space in the suitcase, you’ll find this third option extremely effective. It consists of rolling the clothes up instead of folding them, a technique that will help you get the most space out of your suitcase and at the same time keep your travel wardrobe from wrinkling.

By rolling up your clothing, you can pile the rolls on top of each other, creating towers of perfectly compact garments, an approach that enables you to efficiently use every corner of your suitcase, leaving no empty or wasted spaces. As you do it, you will see that although it seems very superfluous, the truth is that it’s useful.

This method will make your clothing more accessible, since you can quickly locate what you need without having to mess up the rest of your belongings.

  1. Assuring Liquid Products

Another important thing not to overlook when traveling is precisely the way you store the liquids you travel with, like shampoo, cologne, makeup, body cream and the like. Preferably, you should place them in sealed bags, which will prevent messy spillage, overflow or breakage due to the altitude or weight of other suitcases, damaging or staining your other belongings.

If you don’t have tightly sealing bags, don’t fret. Another viable option is using cling film, which will give you greater organizational freedom, since there are no limits to how many products you can wrap.

Don’t forget that planes have certain restrictions, and one of them is the weight limit for liquids and creams, which is 3.4 ounces. If you exceed that, you need to declare it.

Besides the other things, also remember to keep your clothes inside out, to prevent unwittingly staining or dirtying them.

  1. Create Mix-and-Match Outfits

Another idea on how to pack clothing in a suitcase is to make outfit matches, which is a creative and innovative way to maximize your style and optimize the space in your suitcase. Imagine it as your own travel closet, full of possibilities for creating unique and versatile outfits.

By planning your outfits ahead of time, you can choose garments that can be mixed and matched, letting you create multiple looks with a limited number of clothing items.

Places You Didn’t Know Existed in Mexico

June 18th, 2024 Coordinador Web

Mexico is a country rich in culture and natural beauty that is home to a wonderful variety of places unknown to many. Hearing about popular destinations like Cancun, Mexico City and Guadalajara is, of course, very common, but there are so many other amazing places worth exploring.

Most every corner of the country is full of history, culture and breathtaking landscapes, leaving no room for boredom. So, the next time you plan a trip, think about exploring these spots that you may not have known existed and that you will surely end up loving.

Guadalupe Canyon – Tijuana

This is an impressive destination situated within the municipality of Ensenada. Its hot climate makes it the ideal setting for luxuriating in its thermal waters, which are famous for their curative and therapeutic properties, as they contain minerals believed to have health benefits.

Una publicación compartida de Yo Amo Tijuana (@yoamotijuana)

The canyon is surrounded by mountains, waterfalls and lush vegetation, a setting that lends itself to hiking, bicycle exploration and enjoying nature to the max. Some activities to consider doing are:

  • Rappelling
  • Cycling
  • Swimming
  • Rock climbing
  • Hiking
  • Exploring ancient remains

It is important to know that getting to this canyon involves a rather unusual route that is not always particularly easy for everyone, so taking comfortable shoes is highly recommended.

The two possible routes are:

  1. Crossing the mysterious Laguna Salada (literally, salty lagoon) bed, challenging terrain that puts your abilities and skill at the wheel to the test. For this, you need a vehicle that can overcome any obstacle and a copilot who can get around this complicated land with ease.
  2. Going on dirt roads that will take you through two impressive canyons, each with its own fascinating history. The first, Palmas de Cantú, will greet you with its prehistoric rock paintings, a window into the past that will take you to ancient times filled with mystery and primitive art; and then Tajo Canyon, whose imposing monolith, the largest in the entire region, will leave you agape.

In any event, rewards await at the end of the trek, when you get to the crystal-clear pools or even go to the waterfalls that vary in height and size.

The Xinantécatl Lagoons – Toluca

These lagoons, known as El Sol and La Luna, are a natural treasure found in the crater of a gorgeous volcano:

  • El Sol (the sun), with its crystal-clear water, reflects its namesake’s rays and creates a dazzling landscape.
  • La Luna (the moon), on the other hand, has a mystical and enigmatic beauty, with deeper water and serene surroundings, where you will find rock carvings, artistic representations related with the spiritual world.

Besides being naturally stunning, they also have a cultural meaning, since in the distant past the Xinantécatl volcano rose up as an astronomical marker. In fact, for inhabitants of the zone, it was a guide to celebrating the spring equinox. It is even said to have been closely link with the calendar and seasons of the year.

Rituals related to a good harvest are still carried out today, and the best season to go is winter, when it is even more scenically beautiful.

Exploring these lagoons is like diving into a world of tranquility and wonder, in which you can do a number of activities, such as:

  • Follow the trails that go around the edge
  • Enjoy the panoramic views of the mountain peaks that surround the area
  • Take the plunge, and swim in the fresh, revitalizing waters
  • Relax on the shore, enjoying the peaceful environment
  • Camp out
  • Go rappelling
  • Go cycling

You can get there by car during the week, and on weekends special transportation is available, but you can also do the two- to four-hour hike. For the latter option, though, be sure and get good directions to keep from getting lost.

Norte Beach – Quintana Roo

Being one of the mystical places in Mexico, this beach stands out as one of the loveliest on the Mexican Caribbean. Its crystal-clear waters, smooth sand and wide range of services, including restaurants, bars and water activities, ensure a full and great experience.

Some of the activities to do in this paradise are:

  • Swaying beneath the palm trees in a hammock
  • Going to the bars to sample drinks and appetizers and dance to the music
  • Snorkeling around the nearby coral reefs
  • Waiting for the sunset to see the stunning colors that appear on the canvas of the sky
  • Enjoying a cocktail at one of the places with a superb ocean view

To get to this beach, you have to take a ferry from one of two points, one from the Cancun hotel zone and the other from Puerto Juárez. Both leave passengers at the island terminal, from where you will continue on about 2,300 feet to Norte Beach.

Generally the weather on the island, which has an area of 3,280 feet, tends to be sunny, with an average temperature of 82 degrees. It is good to know that there are several hotels, as well as bars and other places providing a fun party atmosphere.

Sótano de Popocatl – Veracruz

Another of Mexico’s hidden treasures is this deep vertical cavern known as the Sótano de Popocatl, which was created by a geological fault. Visitors today cannot help but be enthralled by this wonder of nature and the amazing waterfall that crashes down some 200 feet into the chasm, creating a lake and a humid breeze in the air.

Visitors here can hike to the mouth of the cavern and rappel down to the bottom to observe the waterfall and the breathtaking beauty of the place from close-up. Because that is the only way to get to the bottom, you need to hire expert guides, which you can do in Córdoba or Orizaba.

Due to the nature of the Sótano de Popocatl, during the descent you will see rainbows and birds flying in and out. We recommend taking precautions and having an experienced guide if you decide to do adventure activities. You can also, however, observe the cave from above.

To get to the Sótano de Popocatl, take the road from the city of Orizaba heading toward the port city of Veracruz. You will get to your destination after going about 12.5 miles, though you will still have to walk about 15 minutes through the rainforest.

We recommend having your own vehicle, to get there more easily, and wearing stiff-soled footwear to make the whole process easier.

Natural Pools at Cuatro Ciénegas – Coahuila

One of the spectacular and most unusual spots in Mexico, since it is unique in all the world, this zone of pools of crystal-clear water that vary in terms of colors and depths, is considered a natural wonder and offers great diversity of flora and fauna.

Some activities to do in this paradise are:

  • Hiking on the trails
  • Observing the unique species inhabiting the zone
  • Taking singular photographs of a landscape you won’t see anywhere else on Earth
  • Snorkeling to see the local species

This magical place is the home of species that have adapted to the fairly extreme conditions of the pools and are unique the world over; in other words, they’re found nowhere else on the planet.

Cuatro Ciénegas is in the state of Coahuila, in northern Mexico, and to get to this incredible spot you can set out from the city of Cuatro Ciénegas. Take the road toward Torreón, and after about five and a half miles, you will come upon the entrance to the Fosas Naturales de Cuatro Ciénegas (Cuatro Ciénegas natural pools).

Prismas Basálticos – Huasca de Ocampo

These impressive basalt column formations were created millions of years ago as a result of the gradual cooling of the volcanic lava. Today the phenomenon is considered a natural wonder visible in specific locations in the world.

The most unusual thing about these formations and what differentiates them from other prisms are the falls that form from water that finds its way from a nearby reservoir and bathes them.

One recommendation for your visit is to make it midweek, since weekends tend to be very crowded. It takes about two hours to drive to the Prismas Basálticos from Mexico City, whereas from Pachuca, the state capital of Hidalgo, the trip is around an hour. Because there is no direct public transportation service, the best thing is to arrive by car or with an organized tour.

Visiting hours are 9:00 am to 7:00 pm, although it is always a good idea to reconfirm the schedule before planning your visit and make a reservation in advance for a guided visit. Also, because the Prismas Basálticos are in a protected zone, there is an entrance free.

19 Tips for Avoiding Delays and Luggage Problems on Flights

June 6th, 2024 Coordinador Web

All the preparations involved in planning a trip, from buying the ticket to figuring out what luggage to take, how to cover the cost and not forgetting anything important, can cause worries and anxiety. It can definitely be a little stressful, especially if it’s your first time flying.

There are, however, some basic, useful tips for traveling by plane that can save you a lot of time and headaches, so read to the end of this post and find out what they are.

Plane Travel Survival Manual

  1. Buy Your Tickets in Advance

A mistake made by many is not buying the ticket until the end, once at the airport, which can lead to a series of problems that range from having to delay the plans to the probability of no tickets being available, so you should definitely buy your ticket in advance.

By purchasing your tickets ahead of time, you can get them at a better price, choose the seats you want and have the peace of mind of having your ticket, which is one of the most important elements of the trip.

  1. Choose a Comfortable Schedule for Arriving at the Destination

A very early flight may mean getting up super early so you can be at the airport on time, which means you may be exhausted once you’re at your destination. On the other hand, if you choose a very late schedule, everything might be closed when you arrive, seriously complicating matters.

That is why we recommend choosing a convenient schedule that gets you to your destination at a decent hour, so you can adapt easily and be ready to get the most out of your trip without feeling overwhelmed or exhausted by the flight itself.

  1. Good Seat Selection

This could significantly improve your flight experience. A good option might be choosing an aisle seat if you have specific needs such as frequent restroom use or stretching your legs often.

If you prefer privacy and a chance to sleep, go for a window seat and take along a pillow and headphones to block out the noise. Plus, if it’s a short trip, the best thing is to get a seat near the door, so you can deplane quickly.

  1. Get to the Airport with Time to Spare

To avoid problems, one of the major tips for traveling by plane for the first time is to arrive at the airport well in advance of your flight, whether it is domestic or international.

The general recommendation is to arrive between 1 and 2 hours before flight time. This is essential, so you can go through all the necessary controls and board the flight without stress.

  1. Don’t Forget Health and Hygiene Measures, for Your Own Wellbeing

Because airplanes and travel in general are an easy way of transmitting illness, it is important to take safety measures such as maintaining safe distance, using sanitizers, wearing a face mask and others.

  1. Keep Your Identification, Tickets and Passport Handy

To ensure you have the necessary documentation in case of any mishap, we recommend you have both printed and digital copies of your important documents.

That way, you will be prepared for any contingency, such as loss or theft of your documents during the trip.

  1. Make the Most of Your Hand Luggage

This is one of the most important air travel luggage tips. In your carry-on bag you should include practical and functional items such as your documents, ticket, hotel reservation, toiletries, medications you may need or are prescribed for a particular condition, a snack and something entertaining to do during the trip, like a book.

  1. Respect the Travel Requirements and Health Measures of Each Destination Country

Every place you may visit has its own norms and regulations in terms of entry permits, documentation, vaccinations, health protocols and more. So before your trip, you must get all the information you need to comply with all necessary regulations and thus avoid problems.

  1. Locate Your Gate Before Boarding Time

Identifying and being as close as possible to the departure gate is crucial, to avoid boarding complications. If you do so, you can foresee the boarding process and be ready to get on the plane without unnecessary delays.

  1. Avoid Coffee or Alcohol Prior to Boarding

If you have an upcoming flight, keep in mind that drinking coffee or alcohol before boarding can affect your mood and put your nervous system on alert, causing anxiety and a feeling of discomfort during the flight. That is why it may well be best to avoid them.

  1. Dress Comfortably for Your Flight

You should wear loose clothing with no tight elements that limit movement. It is also a good idea to take a lightweight sweater to put on during the flight and stay warm and comfy.

  1. You May Want to Chew Gum to Relax During the Flight

It is important to be prepared for changes in pressure during takeoff and landing, as such changes can cause dizziness and clogged ears.

One recommendation that may be useful is to chew gum at those times, since chewing and swallowing can help reduce the pressure in the ears and the jaw.

  1. Stay Hydrated, Especially on Long Flights

Staying hydrated before, during and after a flight is essential to make sure your body is working well! The dry air inside the cabin of the aircraft can heighten the risk of dehydration, which can cause health problems and make you feel uncomfortable during the flight. Consequently, you should drink water periodically to avoid having a tough time.

  1. Plan Something Fun, Especially on Long Flights

Staying entertained and distracted during a long flight is very important and one of the most valuable tips for flying with children. To accomplish this, it’s a good idea to plan ahead and take some entertainment options on board.

For example, before the trip, you can download movies, TV shows, documentaries or audiobooks onto your tablet or cell phone, to enjoy on board and make for a more enjoyable flight experience.

  1. Be Sure and Follow the Rules of the Authorized Personnel

Safety is of utmost importance, and the cabin personnel and crew are there to comply with aviation regulations and ensure the safety of all passengers. Therefore, it is essential to follow all their instructions and rules to guarantee a safe and wrinkle-free flight.

  1. Be Pleasant with the Crew

The cabin personnel and crew on board are true behind-the-scene heroes who work tirelessly to guarantee passenger safety and comfort during the flight, so it is extremely important to treat them with the respect they deserve and be friendly and nice to them at all times.

  1. Review the List of Forbidden Objects That You Cannot Take

You must keep in mind the list of items that are forbidden to take on board. Such elements include weapons, explosives, inflammable liquids, sharp objects and other materials that could be considered dangerous in a closed environment like an airplane.

Other objects such as pointy tools, corrosive materials and toxic chemical products are also included, because they can be used as dangerous weapons. Any object that could be used to inflict harm or wound another passenger or crewmember is forbidden.

  1. When You Arrive at Your Destination, Keep an Eye on Your Luggage

It is not unusual to feel a little stress and confusion when arriving at an unknown airport, as you look for the exit or figure out what transportation to take.

Sometimes, that can lead to the temptation of leaving the luggage somewhere while making a phone call or getting directions. That, however, is a potential danger, putting our belongings at risk of loss or even theft.

So, a basic rule is to always stay alert and conscious of our surroundings. Losing sight of our luggage could lead to problems and concerns throughout our visit.

  1. Enjoy Your Trip, Now That You Know All About Taking Your First Flight

Now that you have followed all the tips on plane travel, all that’s left is to enjoy. There is nothing left to worry about if you have everything you need for traveling by plane; just follow the instructions, and look forward to landing at your destination.

One more thing; remember that you can stay at any branch of our Emporio Hotels, where you will enjoy excellent service, absolute comfort and unlimited enjoyment. So, don’t give it another thought, and make your reservation now!

Mid July I had the honor of photographing my friend’s wedding in Mexico. @wearetheparsons says it best: “Photographers: It’s ironic, but we are all going to make better images at weddings when we realize that the point of the weddings is not the photos, the portrait session, “perfection” or even location… Weddings are not about wedding photos. This is what they’re about. Open your eyes and watch it play out. Tell the truth.” I lost myself in creating a timeline of expectations, poses, that never worked out because we were an hour and a half behind schedule. If you know me, you know I live and breathe a timeline and have my poses on deck. But that day wasn’t about anything, but enjoying their love in holy marriage with their friends and family. Not about creating THE instagram photo for people to heart and scroll past, but to just simply. be. present.

3 essentials before traveling somewhere new

June 28th, 2019 Coordinador Web

At Emporio Hotels we know there’s nothing more wonderful than the feeling of going on a trip, especially when it’s somewhere we’ve never been before. However, the less familiar we are with a destination, the more difficult it is to pack. That’s why today we’d like to offer you these tips with everything you need to know before striking out on a new adventure.

  1. Spend 45 Minutes Doing Research

Once you know where you’re going, it’s a good idea to read (or ask other travelers) about the customs, type of local food, transportation costs, etc. We also recommend checking out the weather, as it will determine what to pack. Find out what there is to do at the destination, places you want to visit, and museums and restaurants you don’t want to miss.

For this you can use a travel guide, which you can also take with you in order to know where you are at all times and make last minute changes. You can opt for a pocket guide (nothing like the pleasure of reading paper!) or, if you prefer, you can download podcasts or digital guides ahead of time that you can check out on your favorite device.

Once you have your “must” list ready, locate everything on a map (you can use Google Maps) and then choose a centrally located lodging option. For example, if you’re visiting Mexico City (CDMX), Hotel Emporio Reforma is perfect because it’s a few minutes from the Historic Center, with easy access to the most happening parts of the city, like Reforma, Polanco, Condesa, Zona Rosa, and Chapultepec.

One more tip! Take advantage of the fact that you can download maps on your cell phone in order to be able to look at them at all times, even if you don’t have Wi-Fi.

tips_travel_Emporio_Hotel

tips_travel_Emporio_Hotel_Mexico_City

  1. Plan Your Musts

After researching the places you don’t want to miss, divide them by days, taking into account their location and the approximate time you want to spend at each one. Your hotel can help you out with this.

At Emporio Hotels we offer you consulting before and during your stay so you can get to know our destinations in depth through activities, cultural events, restaurant reservations, and special tours.

It’s also essential that you consider certain aspects like trip length, number of people, how you’ll be getting around (if you’ll be renting a car or using public transportation), if the trip is for business or pleasure, romantic or family-oriented, with friends or on your own…

If this all seems too much and you’re worried about going over budget, why not look for an “All-included” option like Samba Vallarta  in Bay of Banderas, where you don’t have to worry about anything but having a good time, as food, drinks and activities are already included.

travel_tips_Emporio_Hotels
travel_tips_Samba_Vallarta

  1. Pack Smart

If you’re traveling by plane, take a good look at what type of luggage is included in your ticket, as many airlines charge extra for checked bags and only allow carry-on with a limited weight (generally two small items with a combined total weight of no more than 22 lbs).

It’s best to travel light and, if possible, divide your things in two: one suitcase for your clothes and a medium-sized bag you can keep with you to carry your cell phone, charger, and documents (plane/bus tickets, ID, passport, cash, tour guide, etc.).

When packing, lay out and organize the outfits you plan to wear —from shirts and pants to underwear, bathing suits, and socks— over your bed. That way, you can make sure that you’re not missing anything, or taking anything you don’t need. Add shoes, slippers, hat, sunglasses, and a jacket. Always keep in mind the weather of the place you’re traveling to and aim to take clothing you know won’t leave you too hot or too cold should the weather change.

Too much to remember? Check out the packing apps, which feature packing checklists according to your destination, the weather, and activities. There’s TripList, PackPoint and Packing List.
